This tutorial will show you how to install both the Java Virtual Machine runtime (JVM) and the Java Development Kit (JDK) to your loved Raspberry Pi.

In the old days of 2012 or so, the tutorials all said you have to download the binaries from Oracle, unpack the archive, install it to some place and configure the PATH variable location... This all is no more needed! :-)

All you have to do in order to install Java on Raspberry Pi, type:

sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-jdk

And that is all! ;-)

slady@raspberrypi ~ $ javac -version
javac 1.7.0_40

NOTE: The latest Raspbian images come with Java 7 pre-installed.

Check out other Raspberry Pi tutorials! ;-)
